Filters and Strainers

Filters and strainers are often underrated everyday helpers, but their manufacture is a fascinating example of precise craftsmanship and attention to detail. Every step, from the careful processing of the wire mesh to the precise final assembly, demonstrates the craftsmanship that goes into every product. Premium materials and intelligent design guarantee not only optimal functionality, but also an attractive appearance. On this page, you can find out more about our wide range of filter variations and the meticulous manufacturing processes behind each product. Discover the quality and design for yourself!

Manufacturing Our Filters, Tea Balls and Tongs

Small item – major effort: it's incredible how much craftsmanship and attention to detail goes into the production of our filters, tea balls and tongs.

The rolled wire mesh is placed in the machine by hand in order to punch out the right amount in the desired size. The same process is used for the stainless steel rings and handles.

These are additionally brushed and polished by hand after the blank has been punched. This not only guarantees a premium finish, but also brings out authentic features of optimal quality.

The corresponding rings now form the frame of the wire mesh, which is inserted by hand and pressed into the desired position with the help of a moulding iron.

The previously prepared handles are then brought into shape and, depending on whether the item being produced is a filter, a tea ball or a tea tongs, attached to the sieve by hand using small screws and eyelets or welded together.

This final assembly phase in particular requires the utmost precision and manual dexterity. This is especially true when the plastic tags, which are also made by hand, add the finishing touch to our sieves as they are individually hand-painted and are therefore always unique.

Production of Our Paper Filters

Cha Cult® paper filters are made from high-quality natural fibres such as cellulose and abaca, which guarantee high porosity and durability. For our white filters, we use environmentally friendly, chlorine-free bleaching agents to achieve a brilliant white colour. Minimal amounts of additives such as starch, plastic or glue can also be used to ensure the stability of the filters.

Production takes place in several stages:

  • Pulp production: The wood is converted into pulp and processed into a uniform mass.
  • Moulding: The pulp mass is evenly distributed on a sieve and formed into a paper fibre.
  • Drying process: The paper fibre is dried and then cut into the desired filter shape.
  • Packaging: The finished filters are hygienically packaged and ready for sale.

Production of Our Cotton Filters

For our tea filter rings, wire is first cut into short pieces and moulded into shape. Epoxy resin is then electrostatically charged and sprayed evenly onto the rings as a powdery coating. The melting and cross-linking process then takes place in a kiln, creating a 100 µm thick protective plastic layer that is resistant to corrosion and chemicals.

The manufacturing process for cotton filters comprises the following steps:

  • Fabric layout: Firstly, lengths of fabric are laid out and cut into suitable sizes.
  • Cutting to size: A rotating knife is used to cut the lengths of fabric into long strips that correspond to the subsequent filter size.
  • Adjusting the borders: The hemmed fabric strips are cut to twice the width of the filters.
  • Closing seam: The closing seam is sewn in an automatic sewing machine.
  • Final assembly: Finally, the finished filter is mounted on the corresponding ring and individually packaged.
