Here at D&B, people from over 30 nationalities work hand in hand every
day to inspire our customers with our products. From our home port of Hamburg,
our gateway to the world and a city that for us stands for open-mindedness,
tolerance and teamwork, we send our products to over 80 countries worldwide.
Each and every one of our colleagues makes a significant contribution to the
success of our company. On this page we would like to introduce you to our
purchasing and production departments, our warehouse, our quality management,
our sales department, the marketing department, our administration and
accounting departments as well as our trainees and finally our
management.
Purchasing and product development
Our purchasing and product development teams find, refine and develop
high-quality and innovative products in the areas of tea, coffee, confectionery
and accessories. Through close co-operation with our suppliers and a keen sense
for trends, they ensure the quality and exclusivity of our products. Creativity
and expertise flow into every decision to create unique products that inspire
our customers.
Tea purchasing: Our tea department cultivates relationships
with tea plantations worldwide and is constantly discovering new suppliers of
the finest teas. In addition to selecting and importing teas, our experts create
orthodox and flavoured tea blends. Regular tastings and trips to the countries
of origin are an essential part of their varied daily
routine.
Coffee purchasing: Coffee purchasing focuses on
the worldwide search for exceptional green coffee varieties and the development
of customised roasted coffees. Our experienced buyers work closely with our
coffee roasters to guarantee the highest quality. In addition to an extensive
standard range, they also create customised coffees that are freshly roasted in
small batches.
Accessories purchasing: Purchasing our accessories is as
varied as it is creative. Our colleagues are constantly on the lookout for new
shapes, materials and designs. In close cooperation with designers,
manufacturers and our own marketing department, we create unique products that
combine functionality and aesthetics - well known under the accessories brand
‘Cha Cult®’.
Confectionery purchasing: Since the
introduction of the first candied sugar sticks in 1970, our confectionery
department has continued to develop. Today, we search throughout Europe for
high-quality chocolates, biscuits and other confectionery that perfectly
complement our range. We are particularly proud to work with small, often
family-run manufacturers. These partnerships result in unique creations such as
our Teatoast or the popular Tea Bears.
Production, warehouse & logistics
In our on-site
production facility, our coffee and tea production teams refine teas and coffees
into special flavour experiences. Using modern production processes, we are able
to blend, flavour and package teas sustainably and precisely. From individual
tea pyramids in sachets to 25 kg packages, we not only produce for our own
brands, but also produce customised blends with individual packaging.
Our
roasting plant refines selected gourmet green coffees into premium coffees of
the highest quality. The roasting process is carried out traditionally in
gas-fired drum roasters to ensure a perfect roasting result. Each item undergoes
strict quality control and is professionally packaged: we produce our own Café
Cult brand coffees in 1kg and 250g packs as well as individual portions. We also
produce many customer blends and pack them individually.
In our 10,000 m² warehouse, our team works around the clock to dispatch
orders on time. Thanks to a modern ‘pick-by-voice’ system and seamless batch
tracking, we ensure fast and error-free order picking. Our batch tracking system
guarantees complete traceability of all goods used.
Quality Management
No product leaves our company that
has not passed the rigorous testing of our conscientious quality management.
Our raw materials and ingredients are scrutinised as soon as they
arrive, and all the ingredients in our creations are fully traceable back to the
plantation. Every recipe and every single label is checked. After the production
of our tea and coffee creations, every single product is tasted in detail. Our
teas, coffees, confectionery and accessories are only packaged ready for sale
and sent on their way to our customers around the world once they have passed
through our specialised departments and fulfilled every
requirement.
Sales Department
Our sales team takes care of our
customer support from A to Z, and does so worldwide: whether at home or abroad -
we maintain personal contact not only by telephone, but also on site at your
premises or at trade fairs. Our international team is organised into departments
by region/country so that every customer can always reach the right contact
person directly in their own language using the contact page in our catalogues.
Our colleagues not only speak many different languages, but also come from a
wide variety of cultural and linguistic backgrounds themselves. As a result,
they understand our customers, their needs and current trends in the individual
countries particularly well.

Marketing
Our marketing team not only takes care of
internal communication, the design of our own products and other marketing
activities such as our catalogues, but we also take care of your personal shop
outfit! We work closely with the sales team to create customised designs for
your brand or shop.
Accounting & Administration
There is also a lot
of organisation and administration behind the scenes. Our accounting and
secretarial team takes care of all matters, personnel issues, invoices... and
planning the next company event, of course!
Apprenticeships at D&B
Every year, we support
new, motivated trainees and combined work and study students, e.g. on their way
to becoming warehouse specialists, commercial packers, wholesale and foreign
trade specialists, industrial mechanics or media designers (m/f/d). We offer
every trainee a complete insight into all departments of our company and the
opportunity to build up a great deal of expertise in our tea, coffee,
accessories and confectionery product groups. Furthermore, thanks to very good
chances of being taken on, we offer them a relatively secure job, e.g. in our
specialised departments, the warehouse, production, sales or
accounting.
In the wholesale and foreign trade apprenticeship in
particular, visits to trade fairs are also part of the programme and some of the
apprentices may travel abroad in their third year, whether for trade fairs,
business trips or an internship at our American subsidiary D&B Inc. in
Chicago.
Incidentally, many of our colleagues have not only been here
for many years - some have stayed here since their apprenticeship or returned to
us after a stopover at other companies.

Jens Meier and Marcus Clausen
