Nepal
Teas from Nepal, once considered to be of “good average” quality, have
experienced remarkable growth in recent years. Today, not only black teas but
also half-fermented, green, and even white teas available on the market rival
their counterparts from Northern India in terms of processing, appearance,
flavor, and aroma – and in some cases, even surpass them.
Produced by passionate farmers with increasing expertise, exceptional teas
are cultivated in Nepal's predominantly mountainous regions, at altitudes of up
to 2,100 meters. Many of these teas come from controlled organic farms, ensuring
both quality and sustainability. The cultivation of tea in Nepal began in the
mid-19th century in the Ilam region, which remains a benchmark for high-quality
Nepalese tea to this day. More recently, newer tea-growing areas such as
Dhankuta and Therastum have also earned a stellar reputation for producing
premium teas.
