Similarly to black tea, mate tea is stimulating with a short brewing time (5 minutes); this effect diminishes with longer brewing times (10 minutes).

            Brazilian Mate Tea

              This national beverage with caffeine originally comes from Paraguay, southern Brazil and Argentina. Slightly smoky, spicy and tangy with mellow notes of fruits, its flavour reminds of a strong green tea. The tea comes from the green leaves of a type of holly. Therefore, in South America, Mate tea is also called “Beverage of the Gods” or the “Green Gold of the Indios”.

                In latinamerica calabashes are traditionally used to prepare mate tea. For this you fill mate into the calabash and brew it with hot water. Following the tea is drunk by a bombilla - a special straw with included strainer. This way of preparation allows you multiple brewings of the tea and thus long-lasting pleasure. This calabash made from stainless steel is particularly easy to handle and pleasant to clean. Classically, the enjoyment of mate is celebrated as a kind of ritual or ceremony in company of family, friends and guests. The calabash is passed from one person to the next. Within this el cebador, the person who serves the mate, prepares a fresh infusion for each person until all the guests have been served. This ritual is widely regarded as a gesture of friendship, politeness and openness. If you want to shine as a guest at the ceremony, there are a few rules to follow. Always finish your mate, refrain from saying thank you and don´t participate if you are ill. That way, you will cut a fine figure in the ceremony.
