During the past few years, the Nagri Farm plantation, which lies in the Rongbong Valley, has acquired an outstanding reputation for the production of green tea. The plantation is spread over an area of 571 hectares at altitudes of up to 1,400 m and has a yearly production of around 190,000 kg of tea. The bushes grow slowly in the cool mountain air and the aroma and leaves can develop perfectly in these ideal conditions. The regular green leaf has some silvery tips and presents its classical, round and soft character in a lemon-yellow cup.
The name “Hathikuli” is composed of the two words, “Hati” which means elephant, and “Kuli” which means often. The “Hathikuli” tea garden is on a territory close to the Kaziranga National Park and is often visited by roaming elephants. The young shoots are carefully plucked by hand from Clonal shrubs and immediately steamed, gently rolled and dried. The organically grown tea is now ready to be brewed and to unfold its noble class. The open, wiry leaf is rather atypical for Assam teas, and has a matte, light green iridescent colour. This is a beautiful, fresh green tea that remains faithful to its Assam character.
The Shangri-La Green Pearls are cultivated organically in the tea area Ilam at an altitude of 1,700 m. Approximately 96 % of all Nepalese teas are grown in this popular region in the east of the country. The leaf is exclusively plucked following the quality principle of “One leaf and a bud”. After the harvest, the fresh leaves are carefully and gently withered for a short amount of time. Then, the leaves are rolled just a tiny bit by hand and brought into their unique shape by machines. Despite the distinctive green tea flavour, the green pearls surprise with a soft and floral freshness in the aftertaste. The infusion shines in emerald-silvery colours.
This tiny tea growing area within the world of tea increasingly puts very respectable qualities on the market - and currently at a good price. We support the efforts of the small local growers by importing this beautifully produced tea and including it in our catalogue. Due to global limited availability we cannot guarantee a continious supply.
