The largest tea producing country. However, one cannot generally speak of Indian tea because the preconditions in the different cultivation areas vary a lot and, hence, do the teas.

 

The first tea plants came to India from China, after several failures. In the year 1900, 89tons of tea were produced and approximately 87tons were exported. Today, tea production is mainly of black teas and only to a small proportion of green teas.
