India
The largest tea
producing country. However, one cannot generally speak of Indian tea
because the preconditions in the different cultivation areas vary a lot
and, hence, do the teas.
The first tea plants came to India from China, after several failures.
In the year 1900, 89tons of tea were produced and approximately 87tons
were exported. Today, tea production is mainly of black teas and only
to a small proportion of green teas.
