In order to be able to transport easily servable and durable tea on the long caravan trips, the tea was made fit to travel. For the tea braids, it was rolled into palm leaves and bound with threads. For the tea bricks, the tealeaves were dried, cut and pressed into the form of a brick over water steam. In China, this tea brick was also used as a method of payment for a long period of time. The ornaments of the bricks now document the origin and quality of the tea. Today, this type of storage is hardly used and bricks usually are for decoration only while the braids can also be used to create a tea bath.

The tea of teas. This fine, green powder is used for the traditional preparation of a Japanese tea ceremony. To describe the latter in detail would go far beyond the aim of this catalogue, therefore – our apologies to the Japanese – we are presenting a shortened version: put one level teaspoon full of Matcha powder into a bowl, add freshly boiled, cooled water and froth up with a bamboo whisk. A mixture of fine aromas, which, despite the powdery structure, have a surprisingly tender note, characterizes the fine Matcha powder from Gyokuro leaves.
